Green Health Hospital

Bangkok Hospital Samui (BSH) : Cerebrating 9 years of leading a World-Class Green Health Care in Paradise

With no traffic, fresh air, a free-spirited people, beautiful emerald-like water all around with fascinating marine life, lush vegetation filled with towering coconut trees, an abundant sunshine, some rugged terrain and quirky animals, Samui is indeed a paradise for many of us.

But beyond these natural attractions, Samui’s healthcare industry is also a come-on that would rival even the most sophisticated facilities in the world when it comes to beauty enhancements and healthcare services.

That’s right—small as it is Samui is home to one of the most modern hospitals on the planet through Bangkok Hospital Samui which opened on May 24, 2004 or nine years ago.

This tiny hospital with a capacity of 50 beds was officially recognized as an accredited hospital of the US-based JCI, proof of its Western standards.

Dr. Somkid Udomkijmongkol, Bangkok Hospital Samui director, told What’s On Samui they try to perpetually improve their services to better cater to the needs of their patients. in case Trauma &Emergency, Elective Surgery, General Medicine Etc.

“This is very, very significant,” he says about their JCI Accreditation. “As Luath one provider. With this accreditation, we will have improved tasks in terms of quality and the patients’ safety.”

Close to 30 physician and Interventional Health care form the friendly medical team of BSH. They are helped by Practice Nurses & Patient Assistance over a hundred other auxiliary staff.
BSH medical facilities include a modern emergency and trauma unit, Out-Patient Department, In-Patient Department, 12 fully equipped ICU beds, 2 ultra-modern operation rooms, a Hemodialysis unit, CT 64 slice scan, 4D ultrasound, fully equipped Laboratory with Blood Bank, well stocked Pharmacy, and a Physiotherapy unit.
Managed by one of the largest healthcare companies in Thailand, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited, BSH also has the advantage of easily connecting with its allied hospitals to serve a patient’s medical needs.
Moving patients to the capital Bangkok if necessary is also not a problem with Bangkok Airways being its partner.

Medical aesthetics

As Thailand is known for openly encouraging people to medically enhance one’s beauty, it’s no big surprise to see different facilities offering such services.
In Samui, BSH also offers world-class cosmetics or medical aesthetics for less than what you would normally pay for in Europe or in other parts of the world.
A host of surgical and medical procedures are available at the hospital like blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) which involves reshaping the eyelids or applying a Rhinoplasty or a nose job; rhytidectomy or facelift to remove wrinkles and other signs of aging on the face; mammoplasty (breast implant or boob job) using silicone gel prosthetics; mastopexy or breast lift; abdominoplasty or tummy tuck; buttock augmentation, among others.
The more delicate aesthetic surgeries like the labiaplasty, the surgical reduction and reshaping of the labia, and even the sex-change operation can also be performed at BSH.
Injectable fillers like collagen, fat, and other tissue filler injections, such as hyaluronic acid, including Botox, can also be done at BSH.
Many people actually avail of cosmetic surgery in Samui and for a good number of reasons.
For one, Dr. Somkid says Samui’s island setting is less stressful compared to a city making it easier for patients to recover quickly and go back to their normal routine after a surgery.
Other patients also avail of BSH’s surgical services like a cataract removal, knee and hip replacement, spinal fusion and related treatments because its technology is at par with modern facilities found in Europe for a lesser cost.
Dr. Somkid also stressed that their hospital accepts practically all good standing health insurance from their patients, regardless of their point of origin.

Green Health Hospital

As Bangkok Hospital Samui enters its first decade in Samui’s healthcare industry, Dr. Somkid envisions many changes, including turning their facilities more environmentally friendly.
He says this is their way of helping their host island live up to its name as the “Green Island” in the Kingdom of Thailand.
Noticeable changes are already visible at the hospital, the air-conditioned lobby is now getting fresh air and solar panels will soon be installed in strategic locations. Waste management is also carefully addressed.
Along with that, Dr. Somkid says their corporate responsibility to the local community will be heightened.
“We do many things for the local population. But we still want to step this up,” the hospital director says.
A better health education program benefitting many public schools will soon be launched. Further, BSH will coordinate with more hotels to teach staff members how to administer first aid in case of an emergency to minimize impact on patients.
“I think it’s important that we help people learn more about healthy habits and take care of their well-being,” Dr. Somkid adds.

Bangkok Hospital Samui
Hospital in Paradise Wins Prestigious JCI Nod of Approval

Thailand, as a premier medical tourism destination, is currently winning the attention of many international patients. There are actually many good reasons why Thailand is easily being preferred by medical tourists worldwide. It is already a given advantage that Thailand is among one of the world’s most favored tourist destinations, and here in Southeast Asia, it is presently strong on its bid to become the medical tourism hub of the region.
Equipped with modern facilities and sophisticated technology, along with dedicated and well-trained medical professionals, Thailand provides affordable medical treatment, care and services without compromising quality. The country’s host of world-class and internationally accredited medical centers and hospitals enjoys an excellent medical support network comprising modern laboratories and facilities manned by top-notch medical professionals.
However, it is worthy to note that Thailand’s world-class medical centers and hospitals are not only located within the confines of the capital city of Bangkok. Medical tourists from around the world will surely be glad to discover that one can also find hospitals of international standards in some of Thailand’s most exotic locations like, in this case, Samui, for instance.
Paradise like no other
Samui is one of the premier travel destinations located in the east coast of Thailand. This island paradise, in the past, used to be known only among backpackers but has recently evolved into one of Thailand’s premier tourist destinations and vacation getaways.
Samui is an island of Surat Thani Province and is considered as the country’s third largest island after Koh Chang and Phuket. Its rich natural resources never fail to attract millions of tourists every year, along with its white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and a host of other exotic and fun attractions.
While Samui easily gets the nod of both local and international travelers, in recent years the place has also been figuring prominently as a recommended destination for medical tourists, and here is the reason why. If getting world-class medical treatment amidst an exotic tropical location where one can both recuperate and relax sounds like a dream to you, then Samui provides a realization to such a dream.
Combining a rare mix of modern technology and alluring environment, Bangkok Hospital Samui offers an excellent medical treatment and holiday atmosphere that could well become your experience of a lifetime.

Renowned world-class hospital network
Bangkok Hospital Samui is part of the renowned Bangkok Hospital Group that has an extensive network of world-class hospitals in strategic locations across the country. Over the years, the Group has earned a reputation as the leading medical care and service provider in Thailand and Southeast Asia, extending expert medical services with a focus on compassionate care through its extensive Bangkok Hospital network.
With the paramount objective to ensure the complete satisfaction of patients, the Group is committed to providing high quality medical services that comply with international standards. The Group collectively upholds the values and ethics of medicine and its treatment, while utilizing advanced technology and sophisticated equipment and, at the same time, providing well-trained medical experts, all in the aim of constantly improving the quality of life of patients worldwide.
As part of the Bangkok Hospital Group network, Bangkok Hospital Samui is committed to delivering the same standard and quality of service and medical excellence maintained by the Group and in the BDMS (Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited) flagship hospital in Bangkok. It observes the patient-focused approach that is the hallmark tradition of the famous Bangkok Hospital brand.
JCI accreditation
This year, Bangkok Hospital Samui has attained JCI-accreditation status.  JCI stands for Joint Commission International, a US-based international accrediting organization assessing a medical facility to make sure it meets the high international standards and requirements involved in providing medical treatment and care. JCI is, by far, the leading international accreditation body and fast emerging as the gold standard in the area.
Bangkok Hospital Samui’s recent international accreditation is proof that it truly embraces the high international standards maintained by all hospitals within the Bangkok Hospital Group. The JCI follows a stringent yardstick applicable to healthcare organizations and systems, and designed to support and sustain overall improvement. It maintains a governing body that includes experts from around the world, and bases its decision on an international committee of healthcare experts as well as standards revisions offered by advisory councils from different regions across the globe.
Medical tourism on the rise
The range of surgical procedure being performed at Bangkok Hospital Samui is actually very extensive, and international patients can learn more about this through the hospital’s website – www.samuihospital.com – that contains comprehensive information about Bangkok Hospital Samui.
According to Dr. Somkid Udomkijmongkol, Director of Bangkok Hospital Samui, “Many patients come here for cosmetic surgery, orthopedic cases, knee and hip replacement, hysterectomy, spinal fusion and other spinal treatments.
Apart from the comprehensive range of surgical procedures available at Bangkok Hospital Samui, a huge number of visitors also come to this hospital for diagnostic or health check-up. “We have a CAT (Computer Axial Tomography) scanner that provides an intensive ’64-slice’ analysis, a big upgrade from the more common and older version ‘4-slice’ process. We also have the ultra-sound and echocardiogram scans that are indispensable technologies for checking the condition of the heart and other vital organs of the body. Brain and spinal cord analysis via MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), however, is more highly specialized so we need to coordinate with our hospital in Bangkok for this procedure. But patients need not worry about the transfer. We have a special partnership with Bangkok Airways, and we arrange all the necessary details regarding the flight and transportation,” he continued.
This special arrangement with Bangkok Airways is, indeed, a big help for medical tourists. Dr. Somkid further explains that “this is particularly helpful if you are flying back to Europe, for example, after an operation. Instead of having to wait around and then connect in Bangkok, we’ll arrange for you to fly to Phuket, accommodate you overnight, and then you can fly back, direct, the following day. The same is true for patients who are recuperating in Bangkok after, say, a heart procedure. We have everything in place for them to fly here and recuperate while enjoying the exotic holiday atmosphere of Samui.”
Truly international
The island of Samui, and also Bangkok Hospital Samui for that matter, is now welcoming a growing number of visitors from such countries as Germany, France and Russia, to mention just a few. Bangkok Hospital Samui has risen to the challenge by employing health care staffs who are available to communicate in these languages in addition to English.
When one realizes the huge number of foreign visitors who come to visit the facilities of Bangkok Hospital Samui every year, then one will understand how its high level of quality and expertise recognized by JCI has come about.
